Rizwan Khan, a Muslim from the Borivali section of Mumbai, suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism that complicates socialization. The adult Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother, Mandira, in San Francisco. After 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at LAX who mistake his disability for suspicious behavior. Following his arrest, he meets Radha, a therapist who helps him deal with his situation and his affliction. Rizwan then begins a journey to meet US President Obama to clear his name.
I’ve watched this movie a while back but didn’t say anything. Firstly, I love the dynamics between Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. Those of you who watched Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, all those years ago, would agree with me, I’m sure. Or not. Up to you. I myself loved it. I don’t watch Hindustan movie that much. My brother in law does that. And my mom. But not me. he he..
The universal value in the movie is spot on. About terrorism, about love, respecting other people and tolerance. Splendid. This movie taught a lot about humanism.
But on religious perspective, I have to say that it is very dangerous. The universal religion that it portrays would be damaging to say the least. I know that there are people somewhere around the world practice this: marrying other people with different religion background, but eventhough I’m open minded most of the time, but not this time.
I hope that the kids out there that watch this movie have an adult with the right understanding that can explain to the kid that this is not how it should be.
But Kajol-Khan combo, I love it. Love it.
